Mother Teresa’s Tomb, located at 54A, A.J.C. Bose Road, is right in the heart of the Metropolitan City of Kolkata, in the Archdiocese of Calcutta.

The tomb is on the ground floor of one of the three buildings that comprise the Mother house of the Missionaries of Charity, an international religious congregation founded by Mother Teresa in 1950. The Mother house has been the home to Mother Teresa and her Sisters from February 1953 to the present. It is here that the Mother lived, prayed, worked, and it is from this headquarters that she guided her religious family spread across the world. It is from here that she “went home to God” on September 5, 1997 and here her body was laid to rest on September 13, 1997. Besides being a Mother house (Generelate) of the Missionaries of Charity, with a large number of professed sisters, to the present day this building is also a Novitiate, that is, a house of formation for the candidates to the order.

In this sacred place, all are invited to encounter God’s love through Mother Teresa, who lived fully the words of Jesus Christ that have been engraved on her tomb, “LOVE ONE ANOTHER AS I HAVE LOVED YOU”. Everyone is also invited to carry His love to all those they meet, witnessing to the truth that Mother Teresa proclaimed with her word and deeds: “God still loves the world through you and through me today”.
